The Daily Five: Sewer Hearing on Oswegatchie Hills Development, Robbery in Waterford
Five things to know for Tuesday, October 23, 2012
1. This morning will get off to a cloudy start and there's a possibility of scattered showers this afternoon but there could be some sun in between. Weather.com is predicting a high temperature of 64 degrees and an overnight low of 50 degrees. There's a 30 percent chance of rain today and a 60 percent chance of rain tonight.
2. Some sad news, which you may have heard by now but in case you missed it, Dan Li, a 23-year-old Niantic woman died in a fatal car accident on October 18. The two-car collision happened on Route 32 in Franklin when Li's car crossed the center line and crashed head on into an oncoming truck. Li died at the scene. The truck driver, Jung Reinhard, 54, of Windham, was taken from Backus Hospital to Yale-New Haven Hospital in critical condition.

3. Is it just me, or does anyone else think have there been more robberies than usual lately? Last night, the newly-renovated Henny Penny that opened just last week in the Quaker Hill section of Waterford was held up by two men at around 10:15 p.m. The initial police alert said they were armed with knives. The two made off with the money from the cash register and fled on foot. Police K-9 units were called in an attempt to track them.
4. The East Lyme Sewer and Water Commission meets tonight for what is likely to be the final session of a public hearing on sewer capacity for a proposed affordable housing development in Oswegatchie Hills. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at East Lyme Town Hall.

5. The East Lyme Board of Education also meets tonight at 7 p.m. at East Lyme High School. Items on the agenda include an update of the Athletic Complex, a discussion/presentation of CMT and CAPT scores, and an update on the proposed teacher/principal evaluation system.
The board will also be accepting donations from Thomas L. Neilan & Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, which is donating $500 to the East Lyme High School Girls' Volleyball team, from the Niantic Lions Charities, Inc., which is giving $500 to the East Lyme High School Shoreline Leo's Club, and from Target, which is donating $815.62 to the East Lyme High School Student Assistance Fund.
