The Daily Five: Sound View Parking Fees and the Samuel Smith House on Tonight's Agenda

Five things to know about East Lyme, Old Lyme, and Lyme for Monday, August 20, 2012

1. We're likely to see showers this morning but according to Weather.com, these will ease off as the day goes on although there could be isolated thunderstorms this evening. Temperatures will be cooler than they have been, with a predicted high of 75 degrees and an overnight low of 62 degrees.

2. In case you missed it, there's in Lyme and from the Save the River-Save the Hills annual Kayak Regatta that was held on the Niantic River on Sunday.

3. The Old Lyme Board of Selectmen will take up the very again at tonight's meeting in Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. The board will be discussing a new recommendation on parking fees from the Sound View Beach Commission. It is the second to last item on the agenda and the public comments session will follow. More on that tomorrow!

4.  The East Lyme Board of Education meets tonight at 6 p.m. at the school district's central office at 165 Boston Post Road. Please be aware that some of the usual entrance ways off Route 1 may be closed due to construction.

The board will be acting on a proposal to ratify the East Lyme Public Schools Custodial Unit Bargaining Contract, which would be in effect until June 2012 and will be discussing Board goals for the coming school year.

5. The East Lyme Historic Commission will meet tonight at 7:00 p.m. at East Lyme Town Hall for an update on the proposed purchase of the Samuel Smith House. This falls under old business, however, as there's not much new to report. As of now the East Lyme Board of Selectmen are still haggling with the property owner over the selling price.
