The Daily Five: We Have the Best of Everything in East Lyme and Old Lyme

1. The weather today looks lovely. Weather.com is predicting a sunny day with a high temperature of 77 degrees and a cool clear night with a low temperature of 56 degrees. There's no chance of rain today, so get out there and enjoy it! Other places aren't nearly so lucky.
Hurricane Isaac made landfall over the Gulf states yesterday and this slow moving storm has already knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people, which was pretty much what happened here when rolled in this time last year.

2. It's the first day of school for children attending Lyme-Old Lyme Schools today. Don't forget that the price for . You don't want your kids to get caught short in the cafeteria line!
3. East Lyme Middle School isn't just a good school, The Connecticut Association of Schools awarded the East Lyme school its top honor based on the school's philosophy and its unique and highly-effective approach to teaching what many people consider to be the most challenging age group.

4. Connecticut Magazine's annual Best of Connecticut issue is out now and you'll find a few familiar places among the winners. in Niantic was voted the best used book store in the state, East Lyme First Selectman Paul Formica's own was voted the best place for fish, and 's head was voted the best new chef in Connecticut.
Of course, this all comes as no surprise to any of us. I'm just surprised there weren't more places from East Lyme and Old Lyme on the list!
5. Congressman Joe Courtney will host a Veterans Career Fair at today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This will be the fourth career fair Courtney has hosted this year. More than 17 businesses that are currently hiring, including Electric Boat, Westminster Tool, Cumulus Broadcasting, Mohegan Sun, Bell Power, ESPN, and the Norwich Police Department will be attending.
In addition to providing job seekers and businesses with information on veterans hiring tax credits and federal resources, staffers from Congressman Courtney’s office, the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs and VA Healthcare will be on hand to help constituents with casework requests.
