The Lymes' Senior Center Celebrates the Roaring Nineties!

Twenty-four Old Lyme and Lyme residents collectively celebrated birthdays that put them into the nineties at the Lymes' Senior Center

The Lymes' Senior Center celebrated birthdays in a big way today with a party for everyone whose age puts them at least 20 years over the three-score and 10 that used to be the norm.

Twenty-four residents of Old Lyme and Lyme fall into that category this year, with the oldest being Hilma Berggren, who turns 98 this year. Jim Noyes joked that he was included in the bunch because he's 89 and three-quarters and they didn't think he'd make it!

They celebrated with songs and games, including a sexiest leg contest that Lymes' Senior Center Director Sherry White somehow conned Lyme First Selectman Ralph Eno into joining. In addition to sharing cake, they also shared a few of their secrets to longevity.

Agnez Birzell, 94, attributed her long life to "drinking a little beer." Margaret Leathers, 93, said that keeping up with her younger friends helped her stay young. George F. King, 90, said he thinks everyone would live as long as he has if they also had "a good better half!"
