Traffic Alert: DOT Road Work in Southeastern Connecticut

Overnight road work on the highway and on local roads will slow traffic starting this week along 1-95 in East Lyme and the Boston Post Road in East Lyme and Old Lyme.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation started two projects this week that will likely be contributing factors to road congestion in Southeastern Connecticut. 


On I-95

DOT is marking pavements in Eastern Connecticut on Interstate I-95 in the towns of East Lyme, New London, Groton, North Stonington. The I-95 Northbound roadway work will cover approximately 20 miles, and the I-95 Southbound roadway work will cover approximately 22 miles.    

Lane Closures

The roadway traffic will be impacted Monday through Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Fridays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., Saturdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., and Sundays from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Ramp Closures

Ramps may be closed for limited hours to complete the work. Advance warning and detour signs will be posted to assist motorists.

Please use caution as work vehicles will be moving slower than the posted speeds. When possible move over to provide a buffer lane during work activity.


On Local Roads

Boston Post Road in Old Lyme and East Lyme, Route 85 in Montville and Salem, Route 148 in Chester, and Route 154 in Haddam are among several that will have lanes closed overnight due to a pavement marking project that began on Monday. The project is expected to continue until the morning of August 2. 

Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (Monday evenings through Friday mornings).

Segments of the following routes are included in this project: 

Route 12 in Killingly; Route 44 in Mansfield, Ashford, and Willington; Route 66 in East Hampton and Windham; Route 85 in Colchester; Route 87 in Franklin; Route 149 in East Haddam and Colchester; Route 171 in Woodstock; Route 207 in Hebron and Lebanon; Route 101 in Pomfret and Killingly; State Route 668 (Butts Bridge Rd.) in Canterbury; State Service Route 429 (Day Pond Rd.) in Colchester; Route 1 in Old Lyme and East Lyme; Route 85 in Montville and Salem; Route 148 in Chester; Route 154 in Haddam; Route 169 in Norwich;  State Route 608 (Fitchville Rd./ Norwich Ave.) in Lebanon and Bozrah; State Route 614 (Cow Hill Rd.) in Groton; Route 80 in Killingworth; State Service Route 432 (Stones Ranch Rd.) in East Lyme; and Route 207 in Sprague and Franklin.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
