[UPDATED] Twelve Percent of Old Lyme Lost Power Thursday
A car versus pole accident knocked out electricity to about 700 CL&P customers.

If you were without electricity in Old Lyme today, you weren't not alone. As of 11:30 a.m., Connecticut Light & Power was showing that 703 customers were without power. That's 12 percent of the customers served by CL&P in Old Lyme.
CL&P spokesman Mitch Gross said a car versus pole accident on the Shore Road was the cause of the problem. The outage was affecting the Halls Road area, among others, but the lights were on at businesses along Halls Road as of 1:30 p.m..
"I can tell you CL&P crews are out there working," said Gross.
Old Lyme wasn't the only town in the dark. The thunderstorm was largely responsible for power losses to a total of 1,197 CL&P customers in a number of towns around the state. An unrelated power outage forced Gillette Castle in Lyme to close, although the CL&P map showed no outages in the town of Lyme. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection reported that a transformer on the main road was damaged during Wednesday night’s storm. The state park and castle reopened at about 12:30 p.m.
