Old Lyme's Midsummer Festival gets off to an early start tomorrow morning with a road race and walk to benefit Caroline's Miracle Foundation. The walk starts at 8 a.m., the 5 K run at 8:15 a.m. but the following roads will be closed before then.
Lyme Street will be closed from the Fire House to McCurdy Road. McCurdy Road will be closed just north of Old Lyme Country Club (people will still be able to get into the country club, but from Shore Road only). Old Lyme Police Officer Thomas Heinssen said the roads will be closed from about 7:45 a.m. until 9 a.m., although they may open sooner than that if the race ends earlier.
There is no parking on Lyme Street during the festival from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts to the highway ramps at exit 70, nor is there street parking from the highway to Sill Lane. The parking restriction applies to both sides of the street.
Having said that, there is plenty of parking available just off Lyme Street. Public parking is available at Old Lyme PGN Library, at Old Lyme High School, Middle School, and Center School, at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, at the Florence Griswold Museum. There is also parking at the Old Lyme Marketplace on Halls Road.
Shuttle buses will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in a continuous loop stopping at all the parking areas and at Patricia Spratt for the Home, the Village Shoppes, and at Old Lyme Ice Cream Shoppe.
There's a long roster of events planned at locations all over downtown Old Lyme, starting at 8 a.m. and ending with fireworks that go off at 9 p.m. (bring your own picnic to the field between the middle school and the high school starting at 7 p.m. and enjoy the view).
