TOLLAND, CT — The construction cost estimate for new sidewalks along a section of Route 195 in Tolland is $1.61 million.

That was the word in the latest Tolland Town Council meeting packet. The council is slated to discuss the project at its May 13 meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Town of Tolland is collaborating with Cardinal Engineering to develop a concept plan and cost estimate for the installation of new sidewalks along Route 195, extending from the Town Green to the I-84 ramps. While portions of sidewalks currently exist, the project aims to create uniform pathways that maximize ADA accessibility and ensure safe pedestrian crossings near I-84, town officials said.

Property owners within the proposed project area have been supportive of the project, town officials said.

The Town intends to seek Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program funding in the
fall through the Capitol Region Council of Governments, which would then submit the project for
consideration by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

Under the funding structure, the town will be responsible for design costs, while construction expenses will be fully covered by the DOT.

The plans presented at the council meeting "represent the preferred design, as reviewed by town staff and CRCOG," officials said.
