Congressman Courtney Meets with Australian Ambassador to U.S.

The two discussed the close relations between the U.S. and Australia and an upcoming trade mission.

From Office of Congressman Joe Courtney: Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) met with Australian Ambassador to the United States, Joe Hockey, in Courtney’s Washington office to discuss close relations between the two countries and an upcoming trade mission.

“Australia has long been one of America’s closest allies on the global stage, and I reiterated to Ambassador Hockey that Congress and the American people stand with our Australian friends,” said Courtney. “I stated my appreciation for their steadfast work in the Middle East to degrade and destroy ISIS forces. Both of our countries are committed to protecting the civilized world from terrorism without sacrificing our long history of welcoming immigrants and refugees from the world over.

“It was also an opportunity to review plans for an upcoming Connecticut trade mission to Australia to participate in the Avalon Air Show later this month. We also discussed Electric Boat’s willingness to help the Australian Navy effort to recapitalize its submarine fleet, and invited him to visit eastern Connecticut in the future. I look forward to working with him to further strengthen the unshakable strategic, economic, and cultural bonds between our two countries.”
