Driver Escapes Injury As Flying Ice Chunk Hits Truck In Vernon
Flying ice caused havoc on a stretch of Interstate 84, state police said.

VERNON, CT — It wasn't just spin-outs that caused havoc on Interstate 84 during last week's cold snap, state police said.
Ice flew off a box truck and slammed into another truck last week on a stretch of the highway I-84 in Vernon, according to a crash report.
State police said that the leased box truck with a 41-year-old Sturbridge, MA, man driving, was headed east near Exit 67. Behind it was a construction-style dump truck owned by a Willington-based company and being driven by a 44-year-old Willington man.

A large piece of ice the had frozen to the top of the box truck broke off and hit the dump truck on the front windshield, according to a crash report. The driver escaped injury and the truck sustained only minor damage.
