VERNON, CT — A man trying to flee state authorities in Vernon wound up surrendering to a police dog in Ellington, an arrest report shows.

State police released details of the Oct. 13 incident this week.

According to an arrest report, on Oct. 13, a state trooper on patrol near Exit 66 on Interstate 84 eastbound noticed a gray Infiniti with a "misused plate and attempted to pull the vehicle over.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Ellington resident Joey Robinson, swerved around several cars on the exit ramp and sped onto South Frontage Road, according to an arrest report.

The trooper broke off the pursuit, but later tracked down Robinson in his vehicle at a residence in Ellington and Robinson exited the Infiniti in an effort to elude the trooper, according to an arrest report.

The trooper happened to be Kyle Kaelberer, a canine handler, and he deployed his partner, police dog Viper, according to an arrest report.

Robinson quickly surrendered, according to an arrest report.

He was charged with:

  • Driving an unregistered vehicle
  • Driving with an improper marker plate
  • Engaging police in a pursuit
  • A traffic control signal violation
  • Failure to obey a stop sign
  • Driving without a license
  • Possession of a controlled substance (second offense)
