Driver Tears Through Congested Vernon Area To Avoid Stop: Police
An unlicensed driver in a tinted, unregistered car tore through an area of Vernon after exiting I-84 during a pursuit, state police said.

VERNON, CT — A Vernon man is facing a bundle of charges after tearing his way through one of Vernon's most congested intersections while trying to avoid the cops, a state police report indicates.
State police released a report on the Feb. 12 incident this week.
At about 7:30 p.m. that day, a state trooper observed a gray Mercedes E350 turn off I-84 east at Exit 67 in Vernon. The trooper immediately noticed that the vehicle had no front registration plate and illegally tinted windows and windshield.

A state database showed the plate belonged to a Volvo with a "canceled status," and, as the trooper accelerated to attempt a traffic stop, the driver cut through a gas station parking lot to avoid a red light at one of Vernon's most complicated intersections, according to an incident report.
The Mercedes then turned onto East Street, and traveled through a congested residential neighborhood at "reckless speeds" on a snow-covered road, according to an incident report.

State police broke off the pursuit and then began to canvass the area. At about 7:50 p.m. the vehicle was found parked at a residence on Sunset Street in the Rockville section of town and 21-year-old Timio Carilli admitted to driving the Mercedes, according to an incident report. A state database showed Carilli did not have a valid driver's license and the Mercedes was unregistered and did not have insurance, state police said.
Carilli was placed under arrest without incident and transported to Troop C for processing. Carilli was charged with:
- Driving an unregistered motor vehicle
- Failure to display registration plates
- Operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance
- Reckless driving
- Engaging police in pursuit
- Violation of traffic control signals
- Failure to obey a stop sign
- Operating a motor vehicle without a license
- Illegal tint
- Second-degree reckless endangerment in the second degree
Carilli was later released on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on Feb. 25, state police said.
