VERNON, CT — Motorists on the streets of Vernon should expect an increased police presence next. month.

And the cops will be looking for distracted drivers.

"For the entire month of April 2025 you will see an increase in motor vehicle stops and police presence on the roadways," police said. "We will be teaming up with the Connecticut DOT as we kick off Distracted Driving Awareness Month."

No formal checkpoints have been announced, but police said officers will be "out and about" looking for distracted drivers and ticketing them.

"Each year thousands of deaths occur and even more are injured nationally from distracted driving crashes," police said. "Please put the phones down and help us keep the roadways safe."
