VERNON, CT — Eversource energy officials Monday were discounting a claim by Vernon officials that the utility owes the town for expenses related to Tropical Storm Isaias.

The response by Eversource was related to a letter sent Friday by Vernon officials to Eversource Energy Chief Executive Officer James Judge demanding reimbursement for "costs incurred due to Eversource's failed response to Tropical Storm Isaias."

The letter cites $84,000 out of a total municipal storm bill of $140,000.

"We understand the hardships our customers and towns experienced during such a devastating storm. We do not agree with the premise of the letter, because we completed a safe restoration that was faster than our response to Storms Sandy and Irene even though we sustained more damage than those two catastrophic storms."

Power was about for about a week at many homes in Vernon.
