Flying Trash Cans, DOT Sign, Cause Crashes In Tolland Tolland County
Last week's windy conditions caused havoc in Tolland County, state police reports indicate.

TOLLAND COUNTY, CT — Flying objects caused several crashes in Tolland County late last week in connection with windy conditions.
State police released reports on the Friday incidents this week.
At 5:37 a.m., a 33-year-old Ellington man was traveling north on Mile Hill Road in Tolland in a 2016 Ram pickup truck when a strong gust of wind blew a trash can into the road near the 100 block. The can collided with the front passenger's side of the pickup, according to a crash report. No injuries were reported.

At 8:18 a.m., a similar incident took place on Storrs Road in Mansfield, when a trash can was blown into the road and hit a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander being driven by a 20-year-old Willimantic woman. She was not hurt, state police said.
At 1:48 p.m. on Interstate 84 eastbound in Vernon, a Connecticut Department of Transportation sign was dislodged by the wind near the Exit 64-65 interchange and flew into the windshield of a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas with a 57-year-old woman from Windsor behind the wheel, according to a crash report. She refused medical attention at the scene, state police said.

At 3:19 p.m., A Cox Cable utility truck was heading west on Route 74 in Willington near Glass Factory Road, when a tree in the westbound shoulder was toppled by the wind and fell onto the truck's windshield, according to a crash report. The Cox staff member, a 49-year-old Manchester man, was not hurt, state police said.
