VERNON, CT — Land across West Street from Vernon Center Middle School is being primed for a four-lot subdivision, officials in the local building department said.

Vernon-based Boynton Construction recently purchased the two parcels at 256 West St. and has been clearing the land after the subdivision was approved by the Vernon Planning and Zoning Commission. The development is being billed as "luxury homes" under the name "Garden Meadows."

The land was thickly wooded — and vacant — for years until the parcels went on the market in July. One measures 1.15 acres and was listed at $89,000 and the other is 1.97 acres and was on the market for $98,000. Last week, trees were removed from the land and, by Monday, they were being reduces to a large pile of wood chips. The sign for the subdivision was also in place to start the week.

The land was sold by the adjacent property owner, according to the listing. It was already in a residential zone.

The homes will sit in a convenient location — across the street from the middle school, 0.4 miles from Center Road School and 2.1 miles from Rockville High School.
