VERNON, CT — A 36-year-old Hartford man is facing felony theft charges and stands accused of bilking an ailing Vernon resident out of thousands of dollars as part of an identity theft investigation, police said.

On Christmas Eve, Vernon police took Davian Powell into custody and charged him with first-degree larceny, first-degree identity theft and payment card fraud, according to an arrest report. He posted a $150,000 bond, appeared in Rockville Superior Court on Dec. 26 and his case was continued to Jan. 6, judicial system records show.

Details from the arrest indicate that Powell obtained personal and credit card information from a resident who was undergoing hospice care, according to police

The amount taken off credit cards belonging to the victim totaled about $12,000 through various charges, according to an arrest report.
