Front Part of Former Vernon Walmart Parcel Being Marketed

The front half of land once coveted by Walmart is being marketed in Vernon.

VERNON, CT — Part of a tract of land that once seemed destined for a Walmart is part of an open-ended marketing campaign to get something built there, the landlord said on Wednesday.

Walmart first began showing interest in 2004, said Richard Lee, who owns Lee and Lamont Realty with partner Steve Lamont. Months of legal wrangling, a zoning change, resident protests and finally a court decision forced the pan to be scrapped.

All 42 acres are for sale, Lee said, but the from three-quarters-of-an-acre are being offered at a "pad site."

In other words, the front section which abuts Reservoir and Sunrise Drive to the right of the Burger King looking toward the restaurant, can be bought to develop "something on a small scale," Lee said.

Lee said these is no list price and that any interest will be negotiated.
