Got Unwanted Items? Burn It At Vernon's Upcoming Trash Drop-Off

Vernon residents are invited to drop off a single, burnable item at the transfer station free of charge starting July 21.

VERNON, CT — Got something that's taking up space, and you're eager to get rid of it? If you said "yes," then you're in luck. Vernon residents are invited to drop off a single, burnable item at the transfer station free of charge on Wednesday, July 21, 2021; Saturday, July 24, 2021; and on Sunday, July 25, 2021.

Items accepted include wood, upholstered furniture, plastic/resin outdoor furniture, etc.

According to town officials, mattresses and boxsprings are not permitted as part of the drop-off. Permits and punch cards are not required, however, proof of Vernon residency must be shown.

Other items that may regularly be dropped off at the transfer station free of charge are waste motor oil and antifreeze, electronics (including televisions), lead acid batteries, and any item that is at least 75 percent metal.

Disposal of freon units would require a permit and punch card. In addition, excess refuse and recycling may be dropped off free of charge year round.

Normal hours for the transfer station on Hockanum Boulevard in Vernon are Wednesdays and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays noon to 4 p.m.
