Intimidation Attempt In Vernon Turns Into Witness Tampering Charge
A man tried to get a set of charges dropped and is now facing a felony charge as a result, Vernon police said.

VERNON, CT — A 28-year-old Vernon man is accused of trying to intimidate a person into dropping a set of charges against him and now facing an additional felony witness tampering charge, among others, as a result, police said.
Karam Elahi Shafigue was to appear in Rockville Superior Court Tuesday after posting a $100,000 bond Sunday. He was arrested that day following a confrontation at a home on the 1100 block of Hartford Turnpike he was prohibited from visiting.
According to an arrest report, he tried to coax one of two people with protective orders against him to drop a set of charges filed on Jan. 3 that include two counts of third-degree assault, second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace, according to judicial system records.

In addition to the witness tampering charge, his new charges include two counts of violating a protective order, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct, according to an arrest report.
