VERNON, CT — Brush and assorted tree parts related to the Tropical Storm Isaias cleanup efforts are being transformed into plenty of free mulch for residents at the Vernon Transfer Station.

The sounds of grinding could be heard reverberating around the transfer station Monday. The piles were at least 20 feet high, products of a huge machine.

Residents have been dropping off brush from the storm at the transfer station on Hockanum Boulevard and at a designated spot off Nye Street. Vernon Department of Public Works crews have been transporting the brush to the transfer station, where it is ground into mulch.
