VERNON, CT — A suspected drug dealer is in custody on a six-figure bond after a bust in Vernon that also recovered a "missing" juvenile, an arrest report indicates.

A report on the incident was released Monday.

At 7:56 p.m. on Jan. 29, Vernon police officers and members of the East Central Narcotics Task Force, while involved in a "focused" narcotics operation, conducted a traffic stop near 6 Hartford Turnpike on a vehicle with "misused plates," according to an arrest report.

The vehicle in question had "numerous" motor vehicle violations and contained "illicit" drugs, according to an arrest report. In addition to the 43-year-old driver from Bridgeport, two juveniles were in the vehicle, one of which was listed as missing, according to an arrest report.

The driver, identified as Deron Lamar Brooks, was charged with:

  • First-degree reckless endangerment (two counts)
  • Evidence tampering
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Failure to wear a seat belt
  • Improper use of a plate
  • Use of drug paraphernalia
  • Driving without the minimum insurance
  • Improper rear lamps
  • Interfering with police
  • Possession with intent to sell narcotics
  • Possession of a controlled substance (third offense)

Brooks is in custody on a $125,000 bond and is due for a second appearance in Rockville Superior Court on March 6, judicial system records show. His original bond was $250,000, records show.
