Stolen Car Incident Starts In Tolland, Spills Into Vernon

TOLLAND/VERNON, CT — Car thieves are still at large after a Wednesday night stolen car incident that began in Tolland and spilled into Vernon, police said.

According to state police, a sport utility was taken from a local gas station and the thieves sped away toward the Vineyards neighborhood in Tolland.

State police located the suspects twice in Tolland, but had to eventually break off their pursuits, authorities said.

The suspects apparently then made their way down Route 30 and into Vernon, police said.

The car from Tolland pulled into the Shell station at 1302 Hartford Turnpike and one of the suspects tried to open the door of a car there, realized the vehicle was occupied, and climbed back into the original vehicle that came from Tolland, police said.

The man and an accomplice fled the scene before police were called.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
