VERNON, CT — Vernon police said they arrested a Tolland man who taunted them and workers by speeding through a construction zone late Wednesday night.

The incident took place just after 11 p.m. on Reservoir Road, police said.

Vernon police officers with marked patrol vehicles, along with traffic direction flaggers, a state Department of Transportation worker, and members of a construction crew, were working in the area of Reservoir Road and Mile Hill Road, according to an incident report. The driver of a nearby red Ford Mustang first revved the car's engine and then accelerated to a high speed and drove "recklessly" through the construction site, according to an incident report.

The move "endangered the lives of all the workers in the roadway," police said.

The operator was later identified as 22-year-old Aiden Fischer, of Tolland, who fled the scene at a high rate of speed, according to an incident report.

He was located a short time later at his residence in Tolland, and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, interfering with police, speeding in a construction zone and creating unnecessary noise.

Fischer was held on a $100,000 bond overnight, which was increased to $400,000 (posted only at court) during his Thursday arraignment, police said.

Vernon Police impounded his red Ford Mustang.

Fischer was also served an outstanding arrest warrant out of Vernon for a similar motor vehicle incident on August 10, police said.

That day, a Vernon officer attempted to stop Fischer, who was driving the red Ford Mustang, and and failed to yield the right of way, police said. When he was being signaled to stop, Fischer put the Mustang in reverse toward the police cruiser and then accelerated around traffic into the opposite lanes of oncoming traffic at an estimated 85 mph while running two red lights, police said.

The officer did not pursue the vehicle and there were no injuries or crashes.

Vernon Police also arrested Fischer in July by warrant, for similar reckless driving incidents that occurred two month earlier.

Fischer was recently arrested by the Newington Police Department for driving at reckless high speed by police officers on the side of the roadway. In the viral video posted online, Fischer was operating the same red Ford Mustang in the body camera video captured in Newington on August 15, police.

In addition to Tuesday's incident, Fischer has cases pending in court, all with similar charges, according judicial system records.
