Vehicles Damaged In Vernon Route 83 Rock Throwing Incident
A man is facing 24 criminal charges in connection with a rock-throwing spree on a busy road in Vernon, police said.

VERNON, CT — A man spent the night in police custody after a rock-throwing spree on a busy road in Vernon Thursday evening, authorities said.
According to an incident report, at 7:32 p.m., Vernon police converged on the 300 block of Talcottville Road after they received multiple complaints about someone throwing rocks at passing vehicles. Talcottville Road is the local name for state Route 83.
The person doing the throwing was identified as 24-year-old Brian Mahar, who admitted to throwing rocks at several vehicles, according to an incident report.

In all, seven vehicles were damaged, according to an incident report. Police said one vehicle had a passenger and the others had just their drivers inside.
Mahar was subsequently arrested, transported to Vernon police headquarters and charged with seven counts of second-degree criminal mischief, eight counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, eight counts of second-degree breach of peace and a single count of using roadway instead of a sidewalk.

He was held overnight on a $100,000 cash/surety bond and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Friday, police said.
No injuries were reported.
