Vernon 2023 Election: Champagne Retains Mayoral Seat In Prelim Results
Vernon Democrats picked up several seats in the 2023 election and the Town Council race is headed for a recount.

VERNON, CT — Vernon Mayor Dan Champagne has won re-election, according to preliminary results sent to the Secretary of the State the local elections officials.
Champagne a Republican, amassed 3,222 votes while Democratic challenger Laurie Bajorek had 2,554.
Democrats seemed to have closed the gap on the town council and staged a wild rally on the school board.

Vernon election officials said the council race is headed for a "mandatory close vote recount."
Final vote totals will not be official until confirmed by the Secretary of the State's office, likely Wednesday morning.
