VERNON, CT — A drunken and impaired driving checkpoint is scheduled for a busy road in Vernon next month.

On Friday, May 16, the Vernon Police Department and Metro Traffic Services will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint in Vernon. The checkpoint will be in operation from 6 p.m. to midnight on Hartford Turnpike (Route 83/30).

This checkpoint is being funded through a federal "Comprehensive DUI Enforcement Program" grant that is a "regional effort" to combat drunken driving through the use of checkpoints and roving patrols.

Police are required, by the rules stipulated in the grant, to publicize the checkpoint.
