Vernon Officer Makes 2 DUI Arrests On Same Day, Reports Show

VERNON, CT — Vernon police said the same officer had to contend with drunken drivers at both ends of the same day last week.

Police released details of the Sept. 6 incidents Thursday.

At 12:43 that morning, an officer on routine patrol, heading toward Rockville on Talcottville Road, observed a silver Jeep Cherokee cross the fog line on the same side of the road. The Jeep nearly hit the curb, according to an arrest report.

The driver, a 50-year-old Vernon resident, failed both field sobriety tests and a breath test, police said.

He was charged with driving under the influence and a lane violation, according to police records.

At 11:44 p.m. the same officer, back on duty and this time on the opposite side of Talcottville Road, saw a Dodge Caravan first hugging the curb and then coming to a very late stop at a red light, according to an arrest report. When the light turned green the driver, a 29-year-old Vernon woman, quickly accelerated and committed several moving violations, according to an arrest report. After the Caravan was stopped in a business parking lot, the officer noticed an open alcohol container in the vehicle, according to an arrest report.

The driver then admitted to drinking that night and failed both field and breath tests, police said.

She was charged with driving under the influence and a lane violation, according to police records.
