2 Wallingford Elementary Schools Named ‘Schools of Distinction’

WALLINGFORD, CT — Mary G. Fritz Elementary School and Pond Hill Elementary School in Wallingford have both been recognized as Schools of Distinction by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE), the school district announced this week.

Mary G. Fritz Elementary School earned the distinction for the third straight year, and it marks the second consecutive year for Pond Hill Elementary School.

Mary G. Fritz Elementary School received recognition for High Performance, reflecting consistently strong student achievement across core academic areas.

Pond Hill Elementary School earned recognition for High Growth among High-Need Students in English Language Arts, highlighting the “school’s success in promoting equitable academic progress for all learners,” according to Superintendent of Schools Danielle Bellizzi.

“The School of Distinction recognition is one of the highest honors awarded by the CSDE,” Bellizzi wrote in a message to families. “It identifies schools performing within the top 10% statewide in academic achievement, student growth, or graduation rates, as well as those demonstrating exceptional progress in closing achievement gaps. This recognition represents a collective commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, high expectations for all students, and a shared dedication to continuous improvement.

“Having both Mary G. Fritz and Pond Hill Elementary Schools recognized once again as Schools of Distinction is a tremendous honor. This achievement reflects the hard work and commitment of our teachers and staff, the perseverance of our students, and the invaluable partnership of our families.
