$7,500 Grant Supports Music Therapy at Gaylord Speciatly Healthcare

Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, a rehabilitation-focused nonprofit healthcare system headquartered in Wallingford, is pleased to announce that it has received a grant award of $7,500 from Connecticut Community Foundation.

The generous donation from the Waterbury-based foundation will help fund high-quality bedside and group music therapy sessions for hundreds of Gaylord inpatients and outpatients recovering from life-altering neurological injuries and illnesses.

“Music therapy has been shown to improve patients’ quality of life and make a difference in their physical, social, and psychological function,” explained Katie Butler, certified therapeutic recreation specialist.

“By providing music therapy, we can improve the recovery of memory and function for Gaylord patients, many of whom are recovering from stroke and traumatic brain injury.”

Established in 1923, Connecticut Community Foundation was created by and for the people of Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills. While serving this 21-town region, the Foundation works to address the community’s critical issues, funds programs benefiting local residents, supports efforts to improve systems to foster more equitable outcomes for residents, strengthens local organizations through learning and outreach, and works with individuals, families and corporations to steward charitable and scholarship funds.
