1 Hospitalized, Kittens Rescued After 2-Alarm Fire In Wallingford

One person was hospitalized after a two-alarm fire Friday afternoon in Wallingford, according to officials.

WALLINGFORD, CT — One person was hospitalized and a litter of kittens were rescued after a two-alarm fire Friday afternoon in Wallingford, according to officials.

Crews responded around 12:50 p.m. to a report of a fire in the 1100 block of Old Colony Road in Wallingford.

First-arriving units found heavy fire conditions, according to officials.

“Battalion Chief Sundwall transmitted the Second Alarm and both Volunteer companies responded to the scene, with additional mutual aid requested from Meriden, Hamden, and North Haven Fire Departments,” officials wrote in a news release. “Initial actions included a primary search and protection of the building exposures on each side. One occupant was brought to the ambulance and transported. A litter of kittens were also found inside and assisted by crews.

“Multiple ladder towers were setup in a defensive fire attack based on heavy fire conditions and the condition of the heavily compromised structure.”

The fire was extinguished in about an hour, according to officials.

Officials said one firefighter was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
