WALLINGFORD, CT — A Waterbury man was arrested after police said he was driving 122 mph and eluding state troopers on I-91 in Wallingford on Friday night.
A state trooper was conducting speed enforcement on I-91 North in Wallingford around 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 29, according to Connecticut State Police.
Police said the trooper saw a gray Hyundai “driving much faster than the posted speed limit,” and obtained the vehicle’s speed by laser at 98 mph.

“As the Trooper followed the vehicle, they obtained the registration plate, and activated their emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop,” police wrote in a news release. “The Hyundai failed to stop and accelerated to 122 mph. The vehicle also began using all lanes weaving in and out of traffic, nearly striking other vehicles.
“In the interest of public safety, the Trooper deactivated their lights and siren. The Trooper then arrived at the registered owners address in Waterbury, where the vehicle was located.”

Police said the vehicle, however, now had a Florida registration plate on it, which they confirmed didn’t belong on the vehicle.
Troopers contacted 53-year-old Kendrick Amaker, who police said admitted that “he was driving the vehicle, and once he returned home, he changed the registration plate in an attempt to not be located.”
Amaker was arrested and charged with reckless driving, operating under suspension, engaging police in pursuit, and interfering with officer.
He was held in lieu of a $20,000 bond with a court date of Dec. 2.
