Wallingford's Elm City Distillery To Begin Giving Tours This Summer

The Wallingford distillery, which makes vodka and rye whiskey, will give tours this summer but still cannot sell directly to consumers.

This summer, Wallingford's Elm City Distillery will begin giving tours, but - despite a push by its owner - will not be able to sell its locally-made rye whiskey and vodka on-site.

This winter, Elm City Distillery moved from Durham to Wallingford, according to The Record Journal. And starting this summer, thanks to a new law by the state, the distillery will begin giving tours with free samples, but still will not be able to sell liquor on-site, according to The Journal.

This year, the state passed a new law that makes it legal for distilleries to give out free samples of its product, according to The Record Journal. However, despite an effort by Elm City owner Eric Kotowski to get the rules changed, it is still illegal for him to sell his liquor directly to consumers from the distillery, according to The Journal.

“It’s kind of odd to have tours, give out samples, but not sell the product,” he told The Record Journal.

Still, he is hoping that the tours will help spread the word of his locally-produced liquors, according to The Record Journal. The tours will begin this summer.
