Five of Six School Roofs Complete; One Won't Be for a Month
Work will continue at Parker Farms Elementary School throughout September.

An ambitious project to replace all of the town's elementary school roofs save for one was, for the most part, a success.
But the one glitch in the project is at Parker Farms Elementary School, where the roof isn't expected to be complete until the end of September, according to a report in the New Haven Register.
This summer was the second phase of the project. Dag Hammarskjold Middle School and James H. Moran Middle School and E.C. Stevens Elementary School were completed last year.
The remaining six elementary schools — Cook Hill, Highland, Beach, Parker Farms, Pond Hill and Rock Hill — were scheduled to be done this summer. Yalesville Elementary School, the newest of the elementary schools, isn't part of the project because it is too new, according to school officials.
According to the Register report, Marc Deptula, district supervisor of buildings and grounds, said work at won’t be complete at Parker Farms until the end of September.
While the work will continue after school starts Sept. 3, it won't take place while students are in class, according to the Register.
All of the work had been scheduled to be completed by the second week of August, Supt. of Schools Sal Menzo had said, but the school calendar put the first day of school later than usual "to be sure there's no conflict."
Replacing boilers and bringing natural gas to the school buildings are among the next projects the district hopes to undertake.
