Man Reunited With Missing Elderly Cat 2 Months Later: Wallingford Animal Control

Officials said it remains a mystery how the 18-year-old indoor-only cat ended up in the Staples Plaza parking lot after escaping the house.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Meriden man was reunited Thursday with his 18-year-old cat more than two months after she had gone missing, according to the Wallingford Animal Control.

The animal control shared details of the emotional reunion in a post on Facebook.

Back in June, the animal control picked up a declawed senior cat who was found “absolutely terrified” in the Staples Plaza parking lot, according to the post.

“Well, her dad, a Meriden resident, has been missing her tremendously ever since, and it was only a series of fateful events that led us to one another!” officials wrote in a post on the Wallingford Animal Control’s Facebook page. “Zoey, who we lovingly called ‘Ellie’ until today, went missing from her home while an electrician was over for some repair work. Her dad Ray had assumed that she, like his other cat, had simply found a good hiding spot and would reveal herself when the stranger was gone. However, she never came out of hiding for dinner that night, bringing Ray to the crushing realization that Zoey, an indoor-only cat, must have escaped the house. To make matters more urgent, Zoey, who is not only 18 years old and declawed, was also being treated for significant arthritis, hyperthyroidism, and chronic urinary tract infections.

“It’s a mystery HOW exactly she ended up in the parking lot of Staples Plaza that very same day. Clearly she did not travel there on foot! Either way, the important thing is that she’s been safe in our care and receiving treatment for her conditions ever since.

“After finally being connected with Ray this afternoon through the awesome work of a couple friends of the shelter, more than two painful months later, and all this while believing he’d never see his little girl again, these two were gleefully reunited! The moment Zoey recognized her dad is one we will not soon forget!”
