Mansfield Won't Seek Re-election Because of Verbal Attacks From Wallingford Parents

Mansfield backs down from local elections out of the interest of her family.

Republican Wallingford Town Councilor Christine Mansfield won’t seek re-election claiming her family became concerned of recurring verbal attacks from local parents, the Record Journal reported.

Mansfield’s contact information had been posted on a Facebook forum during this year’s Board of Education budget season, which prompted parents to call her home to express their frustration with her questioning this year’s budget, the Record Journal reported. Her son, a student at Sheehan High School, was also approached by a staff member when the Town Council was going through contract negotiations.

Mansfield is currently serving her first term on the Town Council, and told the Record Journal her decision not to run again was bittersweet. Originally she had enjoyed hearing feedback from fellow residents, but became concerned when she said the comments grew “poisonous.”
