Obituary: Elizabeth “Betty” (Hamilton) DeRoy, 93, of Wallingford
Betty, an avid crafter and quilter, was an active volunteer and member of The Most Holy Trinity Church, the Mother's Circle and local PTA.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Elizabeth “Betty” (Hamilton) DeRoy, 93, formerly of Wallingford, loving wife of the late Joseph P. N. DeRoy, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 at Windsor Reflections in Lakewood Ranch, FL.
Betty and Joe were married 58 years before he passed in 2013.
Betty was born in Millbury, MA, October 2, 1927, the daughter of Charles and Flora Hamilton. She graduated from Millbury High School in 1945 and the Worcester School of Business Science in 1946 and worked as a legal secretary prior to marrying Joe (whom she lovingly called “Nel”) and moving to Wallingford in 1955.
She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Marjorie, Mary, John and Charles.
Betty was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church where she was a member of the Mother’s Circle and taught third grade religious education for over 25 years. She was an active volunteer of the annual craft bazaar sewing, quilting and painting many handcrafted items.
Betty served on the former Washington St. School PTA and acted as a Boy and Girl Scouts leader. She enjoyed camping, square dancing, photography and traveling.
She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. She will live in our hearts and our homes through the countless crafts and quilts that she made with love.
Betty is survived by her six children and their spouses, Joseph (Isabelle) DeRoy of Florida, James (Karyn) DeRoy of Massachusetts, John (Deborah) DeRoy of North Carolina, Bernadette (Richard) Smeriglio of North Carolina, Michael (Catherine) DeRoy of Farmington and Mary (Ronald) Bimonte of Wallingford; fourteen grandchildren and their spouses, Richard Smeriglio, Glenna Hamilton DeRoy, J. Cole (Rachel) DeRoy, Erin (Edward) Skinner, Nicole (Eddie) Soderlund, Theresa (Tom) Barrile and their son Elliott, J. Luke DeRoy and his son Roland, Benjamin Smeriglio, Zachary Bimonte, Renee DeRoy, Joelle DeRoy, Rachel Bimonte, John DeRoy and Mairead DeRoy and several nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Windsor Reflections for the kind and compassionate care they provided.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Friday, Sept. 3rd, from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 pm.
Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.
In lieu of flowers a contribution may be made to a charity of one's choice.
