Obituary: Imogene “Red” Barton Proto, 98, of Wallingford

Imogene loved to bake, sew and listen to a variety of musical genres and was an avid Red Sox and UConn basketball fan.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Imogene “Red” Barton Proto, 98, of Wallingford, died Friday, February 4, 2022 at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford.

She was the wife of the late William Proto Sr.

She was born in Groton, December 4, 1923, a daughter of the late Clifton and Anna (Kamp) Barton. Imogene loved to bake, sew and listen to a variety of musical genres. She was an avid Red Sox and UCONN Huskies Women's Basketball fan.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Sutherland and her husband George Sutherland of North Carolina; her son, William J. Proto Jr. of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Clifton E. Barton; and her sisters, Marjorie Barton, Janet Reinicke and Anna Novak.

Funeral services and interment in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Masonic Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492, or the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St. Yalesville section of Wallingford.
