Millions Approved For 2 Wallingford Projects
The state approved funding for two key Wallingford projects.
WALLINGFORD, CT — State Sen. Paul Cicarella (R–34) thanked the State Bond Commission’s approval for the funding of two projects benefiting Wallingford.
In its December 18 meeting, the commission approved $500,000 for the Wallingford Historic Preservation Trust to support the restoration of the historic Yale Homestead, as well as $6.8 million in previously authorized funds for long-term post-closure care at former landfills in Wallingford and four other Connecticut municipalities.
“I’m pleased to see these important investments in Wallingford moving forward,” said Sen. Cicarella in a news release. “The Yale Homestead is a treasured historic asset, and this funding will help preserve an important piece of our community’s heritage for future generations. By investing in restoration now, we can prevent more costly repairs in the future and protect taxpayers from significantly higher expenses down the road. At the same time, continued support for landfill post-closure care is essential to protecting public health, environmental safety, and local infrastructure.”

Funding for the Yale Homestead will assist with restoration efforts to ensure the long-term preservation and usability of the historic property. Proactive investment in preservation reduces the risk of structural deterioration and emergency repairs that can be far more expensive if left unaddressed.
The landfill post-closure care funding will support ongoing environmental monitoring and maintenance activities at former Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority landfill sites in Wallingford, Hartford, Ellington, Waterbury, and Shelton.

“Making these investments now is a fiscally responsible approach that helps avoid substantial long-term costs related to environmental cleanup, infrastructure damage, and public health concerns,” Sen. Cicarella added in a news release. “These projects reflect a responsible approach to both preserving our past and safeguarding our environment, while also saving taxpayer dollars over time. I look forward to the Bond Commission’s approval and to seeing the positive impact these funds will have in Wallingford.”
