Obituary: John Sidney Geil, 97, of Wallingford
John, a devoted member of the community, worked many years as a health physicist and as the Chief Industrial Hygienist for the State of CT.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From B.C. Bailey Funeral Home) John Sidney Geil, 97, of Ashlar Village, Wallingford, formerly of Hamden, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2022 at Masonicare of Wallingford.
He was the loving husband of the late Janet (Harris) Geil for 68 years prior to her passing in 2013.
John was born on October 3, 1924, in Penfield, NY to the late John C. and Bessie (Hayton) Geil. After graduation from Penfield High School, he enlisted in the US Army Air Cadet program and advanced to being a B29 pilot during WWII.
He then graduated from the University of Rochester with a BS in Physics and followed with a year as an AEC Fellow in Health Physics.
As a Health Physicist he worked at Army Chemical Center and Martin Co. in Maryland before joining Olin Corp. in New Haven. He later became Chief Industrial Hygienist for the State of CT from which he retired in 1989.
John was a Boy Scout leader for many years and held the position of Deacon and Trustee at both the Hamden Plains United Methodist Church and the First Congregational Church in Wallingford.
There he served in such capacity as a valued and cherished member alongside his late wife.
John is survived by a son, David A. Geil of Spokane Valley, WA and a daughter, Sharon E. Geil of Wallingford, brother Leon H. Geil and wife Sharon of Whitefield, NH, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in celebration of John's life will be held at a date to be determined in the Ashlar Village Auditorium, located at 74 Cheshire Road in Wallingford. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Masonic Charity Foundation, PO Box 70, Wallingford, CT, 06492 or to the First Congregational Church, 23 South Main Street, Wallingford, CT 06492; or to Hamden Plains United Methodist Church, 15 Church Street, Hamden, CT 06514.
