WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Nicholas Anthony Scalia “Nick” 83, of Wallingford, husband of the late Dorothy (Grillo) Scalia passed away peacefully on July 14, 2021 at Midstate Medical Center, with his family by his side.

Born in New Haven on May 11, 1938, he was the son of the late Salvatore & Carmel (Rotondo) Scalia.

Nick worked at Corometrics in Wallingford for over 30 years before his retirement, where upon he and his wife would travel at least twice a year, taking cruises, bus trips and the occasional Yankees game.

In his early years, Nick was an avid bowler, bowling three times a week in different leagues.

He recently took up bowling again and very much looked forward to his Thursday afternoon bowling league as well as his weekly breakfasts with his friend, George.

Nick was always there to lend a hand, if you needed a “part” or a tool, he had it.

If it needed fixing, he’d fix it for you. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, as well as working on and riding in his little green sports car. Sundays, were meant for the Flea Market, (he never met a Flea Market he didn’t like) visiting his wife at the cemetery and dinner at his daughter’s house, where he would chat everyone up, enjoy a good meal and a glass (or two, three) of wine.

Nick loved spending time with his grandchildren and was very much looking forward to his grandsons wedding next year.

We were very fortunate to have had a gathering in May for his 83rd birthday, and most recently in June where he was able to see many family members he hadn’t seen in a very long time, he enjoyed every minute of it and talked about it for days.

Nicholas is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Banning and her husband David of St. Petersburg, FL, Sherry Cotrona and her husband Frank “Buddy” of Wallingford, his grandchildren Tanya Banning, Frank “Frankie” Cotrona and his fiancé Cassie of Vernon and Nickole Cotrona of Naples, FL.

He is also survived by his sisters, JoAnn (John) Giaimo of Durham, Anna Marie (Mimi) Scalia-Luzzi of East Haven as well as many nieces, cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Midstate Medical Center for providing such compassionate care.

His family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, on Sunday, July 18, 2021 from 3 pm until 6 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 10 a.m., directly at Most Holy Trinity Church, Wallingford.

Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
