WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Theresa Marie Sroka, 96, of Wallingford, died peacefully after a short illness on Saturday, July 31, 2021.

Theresa was the daughter of the late Louis and Katherine (Smith) Schiller of Naugatuck.

She lived in Naugatuck until her marriage to Edwin in 1950 after which they moved to Wallingford in 1951 where they continued to live and raise their family.

Theresa ‘s life revolved around her family. There are no words to describe the enormity of love and support she freely gave to all of us with never-ending generosity and kindness. She began the tradition of “Thursday night at Grams “almost 20 years ago when we would all gather, eat dinner, and just enjoy seeing one another.

As the years passed by with the addition of grandchildren and great grandchildren things often got a little noisy but always full of laughter. The happy memories of those nights will forever be with us.

Teresa loved nature and hiking and she and Ed spent many, many hours on various trails throughout the state and nearby areas.

Never one to sit still, especially when the weather was nice, she was an avid walker well into her late 80’s and also took aerobic classes three times a week. Theresa and Ed also enjoyed cross country skiing, as the weather never dampened their determination to enjoy nature.

Theresa amazed us all as well as her doctor and nurses when she had her first major surgery (total knee replacement) at the age of 89! She was a big fan of UCONN Women’s Basketball.

Theresa took piano lessons as well as tap dance as a child and really enjoyed playing the piano with an occasional tap dance demonstration with her sister, Betty — oh the laughs we had back then!

Theresa had a great sense of humor and she thoroughly enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. We were so blessed to have her in our lives for so long.

She was the “Matriarch” of our family and we will all miss her so very much. Rest in blessed peace now, Mom…I hope that you are with daddy and Larry and I hope you know how much we all love you.

Theresa is survived by her son, Edwin Sroka and his wife Gail of Columbia Connecticut, her daughter Dianne Sroka of Wallingford with whom she resided and who lovingly cared for mom in her recent years, and her daughter Janet Hennessy and her husband Tim of Wallingford.

She is also survived by her sister Grace Nolan of Naugatuck, and her grandchildren Sarah Boughton and her husband Shaw Rochette of Wallingford, Adrienne Adams and her husband Dennis of Wallingford, Jeremy Boughton of Meriden, Jonathan Boughton of Southington, Stacy Sroka and her fiancé Mike Ruef of Manchester, and Eric Sroka of Pemaquid, Maine.

She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Logan, Emma and Charlotte Rochette, Clara Sroka, Amanda and Alexa Adams, Jacob and Josiah Boughton, and Ryder and Nathaniel Boughton.

She’s also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, Theresa was predeceased by her brother, Louis Schiller, her sisters Helen Bretvick and Elizabeth “Betty” Harrison, and her son-in-law, Lawrence Boughton.
Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home.
