Popular Late-Night TV Talk Show Host Visits Brewery In Wallingford

The award-winning comedian was in Wallingford over the weekend.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Late-night TV talk show host and former longtime “Saturday Night Live” cast member Seth Meyers visited Center Street Brewing Company in Wallingford over the weekend.

Meyers, host of “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on NBC, was in Wallingford to deliver a commencement speech at Choate Rosemary Hall on Sunday.

Center Street Brewing Company, located at 24 Wallace Avenue, started a social media campaign on Friday to try and get Meyers to stop by the brewery while he was in town.

“Seth Meyers is speaking at Choate’s graduation this weekend… and we’re right down the street. So we’ve saved him a seat. A pint. And maybe a hotdog,” reads a post on the Center Street Brewing Company’s Facebook page.

The post, which included a photo of a “Reserved for Seth Meyers” sign on a table along with a beer, encouraged fans of the brewery to tag Seth Meyers in the comments and convince him to stop by, to share the story, and “If you know him personally, maybe casually tell him this is the best brewery on earth.”

Center Street followed with a post on Sunday with photos of Meyers visiting the brewery.

“WE DID IT GUYS!!!!!!” the post reads. “Thank you @sethmeyers for being so kind & stopping by the best brewery on earth & thanks to our loyal customers for spreading the word!”

Meyers, who served as head writer during his time on “Saturday Night Live” and was an anchor of the show’s popular “Weekend Update” segment, was serving as a commencement speaker for the second time at Choate.

“I was so amazed when I first laid eyes on this campus 12 years ago,” Meyers said in his speech. “In fact, I was so enamored with Choate that I have applied to be a student here every time since. Only to be told I don’t have the extracurriculars.”

Meyers told the graduating Class of 2025 that the journey they are about to go on is the “most exceptional of adventures.”

“I would encourage you to keep your antenna open for all that it has to offer you from the second it begins,” he said.

Meyers reflected on his own journey into college, and said the “entirety of my life changed my first week of college” at Northwestern University.

He saw the campus improv troupe perform during new student week, and thought, “I never wanted to do anything more than I wanted to do that.”

“So I auditioned, didn’t get cast,” Meyers said. “I auditioned the next two years, I didn’t get cast. It was only my senior year that I did get cast, and it changed the course of my life. There are two lessons here. The first is to find the thing you have a passion for and to chase it with everything you have. The second is, why did it take them so long to cast me?”

Meyers also told the graduates to not let anyone “pin the failures of the world on you.”

“Older generations always try to place blame on the younger generations for what they think is wrong with the world,” Meyers said. “Nothing that is wrong with the world today is the fault of people under 20. And yet, you hear adults say all the time that we’re doomed because they’re getting their news from TikTok. And I’m not saying you should get your news from TikTok, you should get it from late-night talk shows. Preferably the ones on NBC at 12:35 a.m. or the next day on YouTube. Your generation is not the problem, but I encourage you to be the solution.

“We’ve made a real mess of things and we can use your help. By the way, I made that request the last time I did this commencement, and based on how things have gone since then, I don’t think the Class of 2013 was listening…

“So, don’t let anyone pin blame on you. Do fix everything we screwed up.”

In closing, Meyers said it is “truly a special journey you are about to embark on, and it was really special to be here today to spend it with you.”
