Popular Sandwich Shop Closes Location In Wallingford

The local owner noted that the location was closed for "reasons of medical health and wellbeing."

WALLINGFORD, CT — Nardelli's Grinder Shoppe, a popular sandwich franchise whose history dates back more than 100 years, has closed its Wallingford location.

The Wallingford store, located at 970 North Colony Rd., became the franchise’s 11th location in Connecticut when it opened in 2015.

A sign posted on the door noted that the Wallingford location closed for “reasons of medical health and wellbeing.”

“We would like to thank you for your patronage over the years,” the sign reads. “From Team sponsorships, fundraising and other charitable events it has always been our pleasure to take part in helping the community. To our loyal customers that became local friendly faces we again thank you for everything.”

The sign also encouraged customers to visit the Nardelli’s location at 896 East Main Street in Meriden.

In addition to Meriden, Nardelli’s also has locations in East Hartford, Farmington, Cromwell, Middletown, Southington, Torrington, Naugatuck, Oxford, Southbury, Milford, Danbury, and two shops in Waterbury.

The first Nardelli’s Grinder Shoppe opened in Waterbury in 1922.

“From their humble beginnings on South Main Street in Waterbury to now multiple locations throughout the state of Connecticut, Nardelli’s Grinder Shoppe continues to satisfy the need for fast and delicious meals,” reads a post on the Nardelli’s website. “You can count on quality ingredients, huge portions, and the same old school customer service. Family owned and operated by 3 generations and still going strong.”

Nardelli's is most famous for its menu of specialty grinders, specifically its "world-famous" Italian combo grinder.

The franchise has won a number of awards over the years, and was even featured in an episode of the Food Network show "Sandwich Paradise."
