Road Closures Announced For Celebrate Wallingford, YMCA Road Race

Police announce several road closures and parking bans that will be in effect due to the Celebrate Wallingford and YMCA road race events.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford police announce the following road closures and parking bans that will be in effect for all vehicular traffic due to the Celebrate Wallingford event and Fishbein/YMCA Community Road Race on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5.

Celebrate Wallingford

Road Closures:

  • South Main Street, between the intersection of Center Street and Prince Street will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic on Friday, Oct. 3, starting at 12 noon.
  • Center Street, between the intersection of Elm Street and Whittlesey Avenue will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic on Saturday, Oct. 4, starting at 6 a.m.
  • North Main Street, between the intersection of Center Street and Church Street will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic on Saturday, Oct. 4, starting at 6 a.m.
  • Simpson Court, will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic on Friday, Oct. 3, starting at 3 p.m.

The above closures will be in effect until Sunday, Oct. 5, until approximately 8 p.m.

Parking Prohibitions:

  • There will be no parking on South Main Street between Center Street and Prince Street starting on Friday, Oct. 3, at 11:30 a.m.
  • There will be no parking on Simpson Court starting on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025 at 3 p.m.
  • There will be no parking on Center Street and North Main Street all day Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4 and 5.
  • There will be additional parking prohibitions along the detour routes. These prohibitions will be clearly posted.
  • Please be reminded that vehicles parked in violation of this prohibition will be subject to the issuance of a parking ticket by police and removal by tow truck.

  • Eastbound Center Street traffic will be detoured at Whittlesey Avenue to Christian Street or Ward Street.
  • Westbound Center Street traffic will be detoured at Elm Street to Christian Street or Ward Street.
  • Northbound South Main Street traffic will be detoured at Ward Street to South Elm Street or South Orchard Street.
  • Southbound North Main Street traffic will be detoured at Christian Street to North Elm Street or North Orchard Street.

Fishbein/YMCA Community Road Race

The road race will start at approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, commencing at the Wallingford YMCA Eastside Branch located at 81 South Elm Street. The race will end on South Main Street near its intersection with Prince Street. For the duration of the race, the following closures/prohibitions will be in effect:

Road Closures:

  • South Elm Street between the intersection of Center Street and Pond Hill Road will be closed from approximately 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • South Main Street between the intersection of Ward Street and Prince Street will be closed from approximately 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Sylvan Avenue between South Elm Street and South Main Street will be closed from approximately 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Prince Street between South Main Street and South Whittlesey Avenue will be closed from approximately 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Local traffic will be permitted on the above roadways, however, residents are encouraged to avoid utilizing the road during the short duration race for the safety of the runners. If residents must drive during these times, please use extreme caution as you can expect to encounter runners in the roadway and minor traffic delays.

Parking Prohibitions:

There will be parking prohibitions along the race route. There prohibitions will be clearly posted.

Race Route:

Starting at 81 South Elm Street, south on South Elm Street to Pond Hill Road.

East on Pond Hill Road, south on Reskin Drive, east on Sorrento Road, north on Cardinal Drive.

West on Pond Hill Road, north on South Elm Street, west on Sylvan Avenue, south on South Main Street, ending at South Main Street and Prince Street.
