Water Main Break Caused Road To ‘Buckle’ In Wallingford: Police

Officials said to expect road closures and delays along part of Route 5 in Wallingford on Wednesday.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A water main break caused the road to start to “buckle” near Walmart on North Colony Road in Wallingford on Tuesday, police said in an update.

Police responded to the area around 5:30 p.m. and found that North Colony Road in that section was “buckled up from a water main break causing the right southbound lane to be impassable,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation and the Wallingford Water Division responded to the scene, where crews were working to fix the issue during the overnight hours, according to police.

Town officials said in an update Wednesday morning that water is back in service, but work crews will be in the area for the rest of the day repairing the road surface.

"Expect road closures and delays along this part of Route 5," officials wrote in a post on Facebook. "Please use caution when traveling this way, and consider alternative routes."

(Original post) WALLINGFORD, CT — Police are advising motorists of traffic delays in the area of Walmart on Tuesday evening.

Police said the Wallingford Water Division and Connecticut Department of Transportation are “addressing a roadway issue” in the area of Walmart (844 North Colony Road).

“Please avoid the area if possible, as travel lanes have been shut down and traffic flow is significantly impacted,” police wrote in a post on Facebook.
