New Details Released In Serious Injury Crash On Rt. 15 In Wallingford

The driver of one of the vehicle's was ejected from his car and suffered serious injuries, state police said.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A 34-year-old Shelton man suffered serious injuries in a 2-vehicle crash that shut down a portion of Route 15 in Wallingford on Thursday morning, state police said.

Two vehicles were traveling in the right lane of two on Route 15 southbound, approximately one half mile south of Exit 66 at 7:55 a.m, state police said.

A 2013 Toyota RAV4 driven by a Bridgeport resident collided with the rear of a 1993 Toyota Short WB Deluxe driven by a Shelton man, state police said.

"As a result of that collision, Vehicle #1 spun out of control and entered into the shoulder, where it commenced into a rollover event and collided with wire rope guardrail. After the collision with the wire rope guardrail, Vehicle #1 rolled down an embankment and Operator #1 was ejected from Vehicle #1. Vehicle #1 came to a position of uncontrolled final rest after it collided with a tree. Vehicle #2 came to (a) controlled final rest after safely pulling into the right shoulder. Operator #1 was transported by Wallingford EMS to Yale New Haven Hospital after sustaining suspected serious injuries. Operator # 2 was not injured."

Original story: WALLINGFORD, CT — Route 15 southbound has now reopened between exits 66 and 65 after an overturned motor vehicle shut down the highway Thursday morning.

State police said around 9 a.m. that all lanes were closed at exit 66 due to a "serious injury accident."

In an update, state police said that the highway has reopened. "The right lane remains shut down at this time for emergency repairs. We ask that anyone traveling in the area please use extra caution," state police said just after 11 a.m.
