Virginia "Ginny" DeGiacomo, 84, Passes Away Peacefully

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Virginia, who died peacefully on June 27, 2025 after a brief stay at Milford Hospital

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother Virginia, who died peacefully on June 27, 2025 after a brief stay at Milford Hospital.

Born on May 26, 1941 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Anthony & Rose Nuccio of Astoria, NY. Being their only child, she was the light of their life and grew up as one of 27 first cousins though, to her they were more like brothers and sisters!

From a young age, she loved school and excelled in her studies. She received her diploma in only 3 years from William Cullen Bryant High School in Astoria, NY. An adventurous soul, at 17, she chose to work as a secretary at Voorhees Architectural firm in NYC.
Her favorite occupation, however, was raising her three children with her husband Jim in Milford Connecticut, where they lived together happily for 54 years. As her children grew, she then found a second career as a nursery school teacher at Shagbark Daycare in Orange, Connecticut. She worked there for 35 years and helped shape pre-schoolers for their educational journeys.

She met Jim, the love of her life at a dance in New York in the early 1960’s and proceeded to share 57 beautiful years of marriage and deep friendship.

Known to most as Ginny, she was a social person bringing many of her friends together, who became lifelong friends themselves. Virginia was also known to celebrate all friends’ holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries; with an impeccable memory for remembering them all. She was extremely active in her community for over five decades and gave back in many ways to: St Mary’s Ladies Guild (where she was a parishioner), Newcomers Club, The Junior Women’s Club, and also volunteered at BoysTown, Milford Hospital, Milford Library Story Hour, and joined her husband serving at the homeless shelter dinner in Milford for over 20 years.

The final year and a half of her life, Ginny resided at Carriage Green Assisted Living in Milford. She was blessed to find yet another community that embraced her. Caregivers and nurses saw to it that all her needs were met. In her time there, she made countless new friends.

Virginia is predeceased by her husband Jim, and her parents Rose and Tony Nuccio. She is survived by her children James A. (Michele) DeGiacomo, Suzanne (Thomas) O’Neill, Paul (Leslie) DeGiacomo; her grandchildren Jillian DeGiacomo, Matthew (Jess) DeGiacomo, Nicholas DeGiacomo, Michael O’Neill, Jennifer O’Neill and Jessica DeGiacomo. She leaves behind two beloved great granddaughters, Nora & Ellie.

Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday July 2, 2025, at The Cody White Funeral Home from 4-8pm at 107 Broad Street in Milford, Connecticut. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday July 3, at 10:30am at Saint Mary’s Church, 70 Gulf Street Milford, Connecticut.
