Volunteer-run organizations
I want to highlight a few volunteer-run groups doing incredible work in Wallingford—without a single paid employee.
Wallingford Grange
Although the word “grange” might conjure up thoughts of an organization not relevant today, the Wallingford Grange has been revitalized by committed volunteers. In addition to agricultural programs, it hosts toddler playgroups, youth enrichment activities, charity drives, and fun community events like a townwide tag sale, a “battle of the pizzas,” and local band concerts. The annual Grange Fair is coming up in the fall as well.

The Kiwanis Club raises funds through events like the Turkey Trot and donates to local schools, youth programs, food pantries, hospitals, and public safety departments. Their focus is on serving children and uplifting other community-based groups through both monetary and in-kind donations.
Wallingford Lions Club

Founded in 1967, the Lions support eight major causes annually. Their Thanksgiving program provides full meals for sixty families, and they regularly assist local nonprofits like Master's Manna, GLOW Food Ministry, and Relay for Life. You’ll often see them at town events, and they are always eager to welcome new members.
Wallingford Works for Housing
Though not a formal nonprofit, this grassroots group is advocating for better housing access. They’ve hosted public forums with strong turnout—including from local officials—and are actively engaged in town zoning discussions. Their efforts recently helped spark positive changes in local housing regulations.
Each of these groups shows what’s possible when volunteers come together to make a difference.
