Donna Mae Hughes, 73, died July 22, 2025, after a career in medical records and healthcare, most recently as a Nurse Scheduling Coordinator, and enjoyed cooking, perfecting her Italian sauce and chocolate chip cookies, and bringing family together around the table.

Lorraine Laydon, 94, died July 22, 2025, after a career as a teacher and advocate for special needs individuals, active participation in her Catholic faith and Ashlar Village community, and a life filled with sailing, golfing, traveling, acting, comedy, bridge, painting, writing, gardening, and guiding young people.

Maria “Yaya” Pertesis Fucci, 82, died July 23, 2025. A longtime administrative assistant at St. Raphael’s Hospital who enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod, Aruba, and Naples, Fla., and spending time with her family.

Marie Cabanas, 103, died July 24, 2025, after a long life as a devoted worker at Carlyle Cards and Pratt & Whitney, an avid knitter who taught and donated countless creations, a world traveler and storyteller who lived independently in Puerto Rico for over 30 years, and a spirited presence at the Wallingford Senior Center and Whitney Manor where she was known as “The General.”

Francis G. Marcuss Jr., 78, died July 27, 2025. Co-proprietor of the Village Barn Café until his 2004 retirement, who enjoyed fishing, biking, walking, landscaping, Cape Cod vacations, Yankees games, cooking, and watching his children and grandchildren play sports.

Stephen Robert Loos, 66, died July 29, 2025, after a 45-year career as a precision sheet metal fabricator and a life filled with hunting, fishing, skiing, golfing, gardening, cooking, summers at the beach, and loyal companionship with his Labrador retrievers.

Michael J. Soares, 75, died July 29, 2025, after a career as a USMC veteran, longtime computer programmer with SNET/SBC/AT\&T, school bus driver, and transportation dispatcher, while also devoting years to church ministries, gardening, bird-watching, cooking, bargain-hunting, reading, and sharing his knowledge and humor with all who knew him.

Richard G. “Rhino” Condon, 82, died Aug. 1, 2025. A UConn agriculture graduate who worked in dairies, Forte’s Slaughterhouse, and retired from Dichello Distributors after 25 years, was active in recreation leagues as a coach and president of the Lyman Hall Football Association, belonged to several local clubs, and enjoyed fishing, golf, gambling, and traveling with his wife Donna.
